Yorkshire Yarns March Newsletter

March is National Crochet Month!

To honor our “hookers” we’re having a contest for the best crocheted home d├ęcor item. All entries must be made out of fibers from Yorkshire Yarns (of course!). The deadline is Monday evening March 31st. Entries can be intricate as a doily or as awesome as a wall hanging. The best will receive a $25 gift certificate from Yorkie Yarns.

We’ll display all entries on our brag wall and allow customers to vote by ballot. Voting will begin April first and continue till April 7th. The winner will be announced at the Hooks & Needles Club on April 7th as well.

This is going to be great! Be creative. Be colorful. Be yourself and have serious fun. Good luck, peeps!

Our anticipated drop spindle classes begin this weekend on Sunday, March 2nd at 1pm. Classes are only $15 each and kits for purchase are available if you need one. This is the first in a series of 4 classes. You’re not required to attend all of them and you can sign-up for as many or as few as you’d like.

Yarn of the Month

Our yarn of the month is Cascade’s Pastaza. (50% lama & 50% wool). Get 10% off during March.

Project of the Month

Our project of the month features the Wonderful Wallaby Sweater. In conjunction with the POM Pam (our local knitting expert) will guest host a Wallaby knit along beginning Saturday, March 22nd at 10:30am. The KAL will meet weekly at the same time and will cost $20 per visit. The beauty of the Wallaby KAL is that you may come to all or as few meetings as you’d like. As you need help with the pattern join Pam and the rest of the gang and receive hands-on, expert help to create your very own Wonderful Wallaby. AND I’ll give you 10% off any yarn you choose for your Wallaby provided you purchase your fiber at one time.

Gadget of the Month

The gadget of the month is one of my favs. Have you ever been in the middle of counting rows/stitches in a project only to lose your place? Or better yet…your kids decide your little counter may be fun to play with and click it a few times. Doh! Well, check this out.

Use this little pink counter to remind you of how many stitches to cast on, or how many rows of knitting you have done etc. Push manually to change count; lock it in place by pushing black knob at bottom. Pretty sweet, huh? Finally, part of the proceeds of the counter goes to breast cancer research.

For the March calendar we plan to offer a free color workshop, several techniques in sock knitting, advanced crochet and several other useful classes. And don’t forget about our weekly/monthly get-togethers for knitting & crochet. Movie night is March 29th! We’ll be watching “Sea Biscuit”. Yeah, baby! Listen, it was either that or “Napoleon Dynamite”. Heh..heh…

Come see our new luxury yarn by Jade Sapphire. It’s 100% hand dyed cashmere & cashmere/silk. Unbelieveable….

Finally, I apologize for not being available as much as I’d like to be. The good news is that we’ve been extremely busy which leaves little time for me to sit & chill with my yarn buddies. Heck, I don’t even have a lot of time to write as many emails any more. (Stop cheering.) So here’s the deal. I’ll try and update our YY ravelry site and our blog as often as I can. And don’t forget, you can email me any time. I’ll answer. It may take me a minute but I WILL answer.

God bless you all and have a wonderful Wallaby week!

KISS-Keep It Simple, Silly

"Knitting Is the Simple Solution"
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Yes. Tis the season of love, happiness, kindness and of course more yarn. So fellaz, if you're reading this and wondering, "Gee. What would my honey dumplings like for Valentine's Day?" Let me help you out. May I suggest a lovely bouquet of flowers with a sappy card? How about placing a gift certificate inside that card from Yorkshire Yarns? Let's face it. The points you earned at Christmas may be wearing thin about right now. It's time to earn some chocolate brownie points.

Would you like another suggestion? How about surprising your honey buns with a Chinese dinner? And right when s/he is ready to dig in hand him/her a set of bamboo knitting needles instead of chopsticks. And then BAM! Slap a lovey dovey card down on the table with a YY gift certificate inside. Works every time. Remember, every kiss begins with (k)nit. Look. These wonderful suggestions are guaranteed to hold you over at least until St. Patty's Day. (Wait till you see what we have up our sleeves then. *smirk*)

~~Now for this week's news and events at Yorkie Yarns~~

**This Saturday, February 16th at 10:30 is beginning knitting & Magic Loop socks (part 1) is at 1:00. For more details about these classes please view our calendar.
**Monday, Feb. 18th is SOTM Club at 6:00PM. This month clubbers will learn to do a toe-up sock.
**Remember next Saturday night (Feb. 23rd) is movie night from 5-7:30pm. Apparently, y'all trust me to select the movie because I've gotten such little feedback on suggestions. I was thinking maybe "War & Peace" or "My Dinner With Andre". Yeah. That should get the crowd goin'. :-)
**Join us for our free twining clinic. Designer Lisa Ellis will be in our store on Sunday, February 24th at 1:00pm to demonstrate the long lost art of two-end knitting or twining. Again, it's free however registration is required.

**BIG NEWS! We're offering beginning drop spindal spinning classes every Sunday in March! (We'll begin Sunday, March 2nd at 1:00. We're skipping March 23rd to celebrate Easter.) Y'all remember Eve Gallagher of Fair Meadow Farms? She and her lovely daughter brought out the two adorable alpacas during our grand opening. Anyway, they'll be teaching the progressive classes. You can jump in on any given Sunday but Eva plans to teach beginning techniques during week one and progress from there. The cost is $15 per class plus supplies. Space is limited. I'll have kits available with spindals and fleece for $20. This is going to be GREAT! For more information & class supplies list please view our calendar.

That's it for now, folks. Maybe I'll see some of you at the Madrona Fiber Festival this weekend. God bless and have a great week!
